INTRODUCTION SMALL ISLANDS HAVE A SMALL AND LIMITED COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. THEY ARE ECOLOGICALLY FRAGILE AND VULNERABLE. THEIR SMALL SIZE, LIMITED RESOURCES, GEOGRAPHIC DIVERSITY AND ISOLATION FROM THE MARKETS IN THE MAINLAND, BRING THEM ECONOMIC DISADVANTAGES AND SMALL ECONOMIES OF SCALE. IN THE SMALL ISLANDS IN DEVELOPING STATES, THE OCEAN AND COASTAL ENVIRONMENT IS OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE AND CONSTITUTES A VALUABLE DEVELOPMENT RESOURCEA KISH IS ONE OF THE MOST ATTRACTIVE IRANIAN ISLANDS LOCATED IN THE PERSIAN GULF. THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT DUE TO ITS ECOLOGICAL AND NATURAL FEATURES AS A CORAL ISLAND. THESE OPPORTUNITIES COULD BE CHANGED TO THREATENING FACTORS UNLESS THE ENVIRONMENTAL MEASURES ARE ACKNOWLEDGED.EVERY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM SHOULD BE MONITORED BECAUSE OF THE CHANGES OF PRESENT CONDITIONS DURING THE TIME. THE MONITORING PARAMETERS MUST BE SELECTED BASED ON THE OBJECTIVES OF MANAGEMENT PLAN ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. IN THIS STUDY, FIRST OF ALL, THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROPERTIES OF KISH ISLAND AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN DEVELOPED FOR ITS ENVIRONMENT SYSTEM WOULD BE INTRODUCED AND THEN THE SELECTED MONITORING INDICATORS WOULD BE DESCRIBED IN TERMS OF THEIR DATA GATHERING FREQUENCIES AND SAMPLING LOCATIONS.

Abstract:

Sustainable tourism is a recent concept used to reflect the need for a comprehensive analysis and management of tourism both as business and experience. Tourism is actually one part of the efforts to achieve overall sustainable development. Sustainable development is environmentally nondestructive, technically proportionate, economically dynamic and socially acceptable from the viewpoint of people. Now, that sustainable development is one of the objectives of this era of tourism industry, evaluating its performance and effects in tourism destinations is essential. This paper aims at selecting and implementing an appropriate model to evaluate sustainable tourism development in KISH ISLAND in south of Iran. To this end, KO's conceptual model of sustainable tourism development evaluation has been adopted. This model has been developed via a goal oriented procedure based on holistic as well as detailed approaches. In order to apply KOs' model, the following steps have been taken in a goal-oriented process: identifying and determining the tourism development systems in KISH ISLAND; identifying the dimensions and indicators; selecting the scale of sustainability; determining the gradation of sustainability; and finally extending the evaluation maps (BTS & ATSI) of sustainable tourism of KISH ISLAND. In order to follow this procedure, questionnaire has used to gather data on three principle elements of sustainable tourism development (tourists, host community and environment experts). Then, the results of the data analysis were shown on the BTS based on the five-point scale of sustainability. The results indicate Intermediate level of sustainability for the present status of tourism development in KISH ISLAND. It was also observed that the sustainability level of human system is higher than that of the natural system. ATSI model was also applied as a supplement to BTS analysis in order to determine the individual sustainability levels of sustainable indicators of KISH ISLAND. Thus, the index of noise achieved the highest sustainability level, denoting calmness of the ISLAND; and the index of performing environmental monitoring got the lowest level of sustain ability comparing to other indicators of sustainable tourism development of KISH ISLAND.

Abstract:

Coral reefs are considered as one of most productive marine habitats for energy and production of organic matter.21 species of hard corals have been identified in KISH ISLAND The family Favidea have the highest variety. The genera porites, Acropora are abundant coral reefs in KISH ISLAND. Bleaching of the coral reefs along with the death or not death of corals is the reflex of corals to the environmental stress. Methods used in this study due to the status of the amount of approximate alive or dead coral reefs around the KISH ISLAND, is timed swims or TS. 6 regions around KISH ISLAND. were evaluated, the Persian Gulf, Big coral, Jurassic park, KolbeHoor, Greek ship, north of the ISLAND. In the Jurassic park area coral colonies of the genera Acropora, Porites were bleached with 45percent.Minimum of bleaching had seen in north of the ISLAND with 10 percent. In Persian Gulf site dead corals of Acropora sp. and Porites sp. were seen colonies of Acropora sp. were bleached with algae on it. Human activities like anchoring boats and recreational snorkeling in shallow water could be damaging coral reef.

Abstract:

Small ISLANDs around the world face various hazards such as sea-water level rise, hurricanes, human activities over pressure, environmental degradation, and pollution. Resiliency is a critical feature that has to be maintained in these sensitive and vulnerable areas. This paper focuses on the importance of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) in increasing the level of resiliency in small ISLANDs. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) has been recommended for practice by United Nations 1992 Rio Conference resolution to conserve the valuable natural resources of the coastal areas around the globe and improve their deteriorating environmental conditions. Integrated coastal management plan in small ISLANDs should resolve their problems in such a way that sustainable development is guaranteed. KISH is a beautiful small ISLAND in the Persian Gulf region, which serves the country as a free trade zone. This article describes its characteristics and problems and also the e orts that have been made for integrated coastal management initiatives in the ISLAND to identify the basic problems and provide plans for strengthening the ISLAND to manage its current and future problems via acquiring an acceptable level of resiliency.

Abstract:

Renewable energy and especially solar energy in KISH ISLAND, have special important in order to maintain biological life and prevent air and water pollution The use of solar energy in KISH ISLAND as a touristy region have effective role in biological environment and increasing of its attractive.Hence the aim of this paper is determine of solar energy potential in order to use pure energy in this ISLAND. Be-cease of absent of radiometer in KISH ISLAND, we use the daily data of radiometer and climatic parameter as radiation coefficient and coldness in Bandarabbas station for determine the estimation model. Then by use of this model and climatic parameter in KISH ISLAND, we estimate radiation in this ISLAND. The result show that the model based on brightness coefficient and sky coldness has a correct estimation of received radiation in horizontal surface in KISH ISLAND. In addition, various methods for determining the optimum angle of the solar panels were studied and finally Skeiker model was used to determine the optimum angle of solar panels. Duffy and Beckman model to compare the amount of radiation received at the surface of solar panels and radiation angles in the horizontal plane was used. The average radiation KISH ISLAND is 508.7 calories per square centimeter per day, including areas with high potential for the utilization of solar energy in photovoltaic systems as well as solar water heating and cooling. The results showed that the average monthly proper slope solar panels for June least 4 degrees and 50 degrees for January and December along the horizon. By applying the proper angle of the panels, the amount of radiation increased respectively 48 and 55 percent in January and December.

Abstract:

In tourism industry, the usage changes in the coastal regions and the adverse impacts of tourism development on the environment is considered as one of the major and concerning issues. Determining the value of maximum carrying capacity for planning in order to reduce environmental damages and protect ecosystems of the coastal band of KISH ISLAND and also enhancing its entertainment quality, which has a favorable position due to its coral reefs and white beaches, seems necessary. The present article, based on the assessment of physical-ecological carrying capacity in the context of the protected districts and also assessment of socio-cultural carrying capacity by the use of video recording ICT, through presenting the desirable limit of tourist acceptance in coastal area of KISH ISLAND, tries while minimizing the coastal biologic damages, preserves the capability of this area for supporting the recreational quality of the ISLAND's coastal restores. Since the rules governing the coasts of Iran are different politically and ideologically from the shores of many countries, in this article, the coastal tourist carrying capacity has been organized based on two scenarios. In scenario 1, the carrying capacity has been estimated with respect to common universal standards and in the second scenario with respect to the political criteria and special ideology of Iran’s community. The results show that although a certain number of tourists can be accommodated physically in the coastal area, but with respect to natural and human limiting factors and the present legal and ideological guidelines, there exists more pressure and density in parts of the ISLAND coast and In both scenarios, which is more than the carrying capacity of the environment and the tourists.

Abstract:

Introduction and Objectives: Having competitive power in the Persian Gulf area has made scientific planning essential for sustainable development of tourism. This development should include a balance between environment, culture and economy. This research aimed to identify and develop strategies for sustainable tourism development on KISH ISLAND, with emphasis on the bearing capacity of the ISLAND.Materials and Methods: This study is applied in terms of purpose and seeks to identify environmental damages caused by tourism development and promotion of tourism statistics in the ISLAND. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics with the help of software SPss or Excel.Finding: The research showed that despite the development perspective of the ISLAND, because of the personal interests of the managers, experts, tourists and New Year holiday, the beautiful ISLAND of KISH is suffering the equipment and facilities for the welfare of tourists and even the owners of houses in KISH get upset by the over-crowd of the New Year holiday tourist and despite their investment, they leave the ISLAND and change their touristic destination. Conclusions: Deleterious effects of sectional decisions of ISLAND Department of Tourism for the motivation to increase the nominal amount of Tourism Statistics in New Year holiday in recent years, not only reduced the actual tourists number, but degrading of the environment (aquatic and other wildlife of the ISLAND) has also accelerated. Investors in ISLANDs have also been neglected in various dimensions of cultural, social and economic.

Abstract:

Background and Objective: Echinoderms are one of the oldest and the most important marine groups. They play an important role in oceans’ ecology especially in coral reefs. Various species of Echinodermata were identified in the depth of 5 m and in intertidal zone of northern coasts of KISH ISLAND in winter and summer of 2014. Method: Four stations at the northen coast of KISH ISLAND (Simorgh, Didaniha, Kampe Rahimi, Derakhtsabz) were selected in terms of the characteristics of the zone, and Simorgh site was selected as the main station. Specimens were collected using a 1×1 m2 quadrat and identified following recovery and counting. Findings: Totally, 184 specimens were collected and they belonged to 4 Classes, 6 Families and 7 Species of Echinometra mathaei, Diadema setosum, Clypeaster reticulates, Linckia multiflora, Macrophiothrix elongate, Holothuria (selenkothuria) Bacilla, Holothuria leucospilota. Except for Echinometra mathaei which was identified in “ Simorgh station” , no other type of Echinodermata was found in intertidal zone of other stations. In this study, Clypeaster reticulatus, Holothuria leucospilota, Macrophiothrix elongate, Holothuria (selenkothuria) Bacilla were found for the first time in the depth of 5 m of KISH ISLAND. Discussion and Conclusion: Results showed that density of Echinodermata was higher in summer than in winter. Echinometra mathaei was the most prominent species in the southern cost of KISH ISLAND with a stability coefficient of 24. 4 and 18. 4 for summer and the winter, respectively. Moreover, indexes of richness increases in cold season and decreased in warm season. According to the stability coefficient and indexes of richness and density in the northern cost of the ISLAND, only Simorgh station has no stress and contains rare species. However, other three stations of Didaniha, Derakhtsabz and Kampe Rahimi are under stress and have little common species.

Abstract:

Three main groups of macroalgae have been studied along 4 transects in KISH ISLAND. Sampling were carried out during highest tidal time, bimonthly for one year. All sampling were made by applying quadrates (0.5xO.5m) randomly along the intertidal zone. The collected specimen were identified and their frequency and biomass were determined. Statistical results showed that Rizocolunium impelexum had the most frequency within green algae. Also, the most abundance occured in the first transect (Saffain), in the upper mid littoral zone (U.M.L) and during the first collection (March). Among the brown algae Cystoseira myrica had the most abundance in the first transect and medium mid-littoral (M.M.L.) in the fourth collection (September). Champia Japonica (red algae), had the most abundance compared to the other 13 species in the first transect and in medium mid- littoral regions (M.M.L). From the obtained information that in the first transect were located in the domestic sewage efluent region, the diversity and abundance of chlorophyta were the most. This can be due to existence and abundance of elements and nutrients. With the observation in the second transect (south western), algal species diversity especially brown and red algae were very high.

Abstract:

CONSERVATION OF WATER AND PROTECTION OF WATER RESOURCES IS CONSIDERED AS AN IMPORTANT AND FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENT IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. IN THE SOUTHERN REGIONS OF OUR COUNTRY, ACCESS TO FRESH WATER IS WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY AND ITS SUPPLY IS VERY COSTLY. ON THE ISLANDS BECAUSE OF THE PHYSICAL LOCATION, ISOLATION, HIGH POPULATION DENSITY, SCARCE NATURAL RESOURCES SUCH AS LAND, WATER, MINERALS AND ENERGY, AND EXPOSURE TO NATURAL DISASTERS, HURRICANES, TIDAL WAVES AND OTHERS, WE HAVE SPECIAL PROBLEMS. [8]IN KISH ISLAND WITH AN AREA OF APPROXIMATELY 9000 HA, INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (IWRM) IS VERY IMPORTANT IN TERMS OF WATER SUPPLY AND THE ENVIRONMENT AND THE NATURAL ECOSYSTEM. DUE TO THE CONFINED AND LIMITED WATER RESOURCES AVAILABLE, AND REDUCING ITS PER CAPITA, IWRM WILL BECOME MORE IMPORTANT. IN THIS REGARD, THE ISLAND'S WATER RESOURCES (CONVENTIONAL AND UNCONVENTIONAL) NEED TO BE ANALYZED. WATER SYSTEMS CAN BE MODELED USING APPROPRIATE MEASURES AND REQUIRED PREDICTIONS AND THE RESPONSE OF THE SYSTEM TO BE SIMULATED.IN THIS RESEARCH, THE WATER RESOURCES AVAILABLE AND USABLE IN THE ISLAND, INCLUDING SURFACE WATER, GROUNDWATER, THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCED WATER DESALINATION, WASTEWATER, EFFLUENT OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT AND OTHER RESOURCES USED IN THE ISLAND WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCED WATER AND QUALITY OF EACH OF THESE SOURCES AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF FUTURE OR LIMITATIONS IN RESOURCES OVER TIME WILL BE DETECTED.FINALLY, WHILE PRESENTING A GENERAL MODEL TO IMPLEMENT THE INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN THE ISLANDS, A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE CHALLENGES USING STUDIES AND OUTCOMES ECONOMIC ANALYSIS AS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ELEMENTS OF AN IWRM AND THE CONSEQUENCE ANALYSIS IS APPROACHED. KEYWORDS: SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, KISH ISLAND, WEAP.
